Biography -
Mrinalini Sarabhai was a celebrated Indian classical dancer. She was educated at Shantiniketan under the guidance of Rabindranath Tagore. Then she gone to United States for a short time to enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She took training in the south Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam under Meenakshi Sundaram Pillai and the classical dance-drama of Kathakali under the legendary guru Thakazhi Kunchu Kurup.

She was the founding director of the Darpan Academy of Performing Arts, An institute for imparting training in dance, drama, music and pupperty (Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India). She trained over 18,000 students in Bharatnatyam and Kathakali.

She was the chairperson of the Gujarat State Handi crafts and Handloom Development Corporation Ltd. She also the one of the trustees of the Sarvodaya International Trust, an organization for promotion of Gandhian ideals and also she was the chairperson of the Nehru Foundation for Development (NFD).

Her autobiography is titled - "Mrinalini Sarabhai: The Voice of the Heart"

Padma Bhushan (1992), Padma Shri (1965), Degree of Doctor of Letters, honris Causa (LittD) (The university of East Anglia, Norwich, UK, 1997), The medal and diploma of the French Archives Internationales de la Danse (First Indian to receive), Nominated for the Executive Committee of the International Dance Council, Paris (1990), Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, New Delhi (1994), Gold Medal by the Maxican Government for her choreography for the Ballet Folklorico of Mexico.
